Important Information for Travel to/from Canada
for ICRS 2007 Attendees

..Traveling to Canada:

..Proof of citizenship is required when entering Canada. To determine which documents you require, please contact the Canadian Embassy or Canadian Consulate in your country. Please click << HERE >> for more information. Visitors should ask about visa requirements before departing, as these documents are not available at the border.

..Effective January 23, 2007, all U.S. citizens traveling by air to and from Canada are required to have a valid passport to enter the United States. As early as January 1, 2008, U.S. citizens traveling between the United States and Canada by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid U.S. passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security. Ample advance notice will be provided to enable the public to obtain passports or passport cards for land/sea entries. American citizen travelers are encouraged to apply for a U.S. passport or the passport card when it becomes available, well in advance of anticipated travel. American citizens can visit or call 1-877-4USA-PPT (1-877-487-2778) for information on applying for a passport.

..New Requirements for Travelers to Enter or Re-enter the US:

..The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 8, 2007, travelers from Canada, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Mexico, Central and South America have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States when traveling by air or sea.

..This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports. This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States. Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.
