Ethan Russo, MD – A Board-certified neurologist, cannabis psychopharmacology researcher, author and global preeminent medical cannabis expert.  Dr. Russo’s contribution to applied medical Cannabis research is unrivaled – as a pioneer in the field of cannabinoid science.

The International Cannabinoid Research Society is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization dedicated to scientific research in all fields of the cannabinoids, ranging from biochemical, chemical and physiological studies of the endogenous cannabinoid system to studies of the use and abuse potential of Cannabis.  In addition to acting as a source for impartial information on Cannabis and the cannabinoids, the main role of the ICRS is to provide an open forum for academic researchers – to meet and discuss their findings – at annually held symposia.  For 33 years, ICRS has provided a forum and safe-space for PhD-level researchers to discuss their findings and thrive as a community.  Ethan’s long been a staunch advocate for basic and applied research in all cannabinoid-related fields and a great supporter of all things ICRS.  Indeed, Ethan was ICRS Secretary from 2009-2011, was ICRS President 2013-2014, and ran the ICRS2014 Symposium in Baveno, Italy.

On the occasion of Ethan’s 70th birthday, the ICRS has created a new award namedThe Ethan Russo Trainee Prize,” a community-funded* scholarship to be given to one (1) deserving ICRS Trainee, annually.  Chosen by an ICRS Board-appointed judging committee, the Russo Prize recipient receives their award in support of ongoing research in applied medical research using phytochemicals with direct application to medicine.  As Dr. Russo has devoted his career to botanical medicine, all ICRS Symposia pre-Doctoral and post-Doctoral trainees presenting data utilizing phytocannabinoids in their research shall be potential nominees to this award.  We invite you to celebrate Dr. Russo with us.
